January 2008

The NAGEM Research Group has recently reached a partnership agreement with Riegl USA, Inc. to develop ground-based mobile LiDAR technology for corridor applications.

November 2007

Dr. Gamal Seedahmed was honored with the Duane C. Brown Award by the Ohio State University. The award was established to “promote and stimulate scientific activity in photogrammetry” and is given to a person “who has most successfully forwarded the cause of photogrammetry and strengthened the reputation of the Department of Geodetic Science and Surveying in the field of photogrammetry.”

September 2007

The Manasota Chapter of the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society presented the Geomatics program with a check of $10,000 to help equip the Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Computer Laboratory. The funds were used to purchase high performance computers as well as Stereoscopic Visualization systems from MacNaughton Inc. This will enable our students to get quality experience in soft copy photogrammetry.

The Program already has support from Cardinal Systems, which allows us to use their VrMapping software.

August  2007

The UF Geomatics Program took delivery of a GS-200 3D laser scanner as a donation from Trimble dealer Southern Laser of Lutz, Fl. We would particularly like to thank Joe Schneiderwind,  survey sales manager for Southern Laser and FSMS for making this possible.

This instrument will allow UF Geomatics students to have hands-on experience in the use of a terrestrial laser scanner.

The GS-200 uses a pulsed laser which reflects off an object’s surface, enabling three-dimensional coordinates of the point to be obtained. By scanning the laser across the field of view, coordinates of a multitude of points – termed a point cloud – are generated, which gives a precise representation of the surface shape.
